S for Smoothie

What to do when you feel like something refreshing, semi sweet but still healthy? You make a smoothie!

For those who have been following me for a while, you know how much I like fruit, and particularly strawberries and watermelon….today however, I’m using some other fruit that I could eat at pretty much all time of day; honeydew melon and kiwi.

Luckily for my sweet tooth, our fruit here is sweet enough so there no need to add on any honey or sugar, unless you wanted to do so!  The strawberry season may already be over in Malta (boooo 😒), but every year I freeze quite a number in, especially for smoothies later in summer. Because…. I mean… Strawberries….

Ready to blend some stuff?

  • Quarter of a medium sized honeydew melon
  • 2 generous handfuls of strawberries, fresh or half defrosted, hulled
  • 1 kiwi

First we need to clean our fruits; seared and remove the rind of the melon. Cut in rough pieces.

Hull your strawberries if fresh, half defrost them if frozen and if you’re using a stick blender. If your food processor is tough enough, you can use them straight out of the freezer.

Peel the kiwi and slice in rough thick slices.

Add all fruit in a blender and blend! That’s it!

I would serve in a tall glass over ice, and with a thick straw ( I’ve run out 😔) and enjoy. Cheers!
