L for Lemonade

“Life handed him a lemon,
As Life sometimes will do.
His friends looked on in pity,
Assuming he was through.
They came upon him later,
Reclining in the shade
In calm contentment, drinking
A glass of lemonade.”

The Optimist, 1940, The Rotarian

I’ve had homemade lemonade before, and really enjoyed it, so having a bunch of lemons at home, I thought I’d give it it a try.

Ingredients

  • 1 Liter of Water
  • 100 – 150 gr. of Honey
  • 200 – 250 ml of fresh Lemon juice – that is about 4-5 lemons

Method

Heat up the water and take it off the heat, once hot. There is no need to boil it, as honey melts at about 40 to 50 degrees Celsius (104 and 122 °F).  Add the honey to the water and stir until it dissolves.  This doesn’t take that long, just a minute.

Then add on the lemon juice and taste.  If you find the mix too sour, add in more honey. Then chill and serve.  For decoration purposes, drop in a slice of lemon.
